How can I borrow a book from another college?

How do you sign into a database?

You will be prompted to sign-in using your NC credentials with an NiagaraCollege email and password. These are the same credentials that you use to sign into my NC and D2L Brightspace.

You can borrow a combination of books, equipment, and course reserves from the library. There is a maximum loan limit of 10 items in any combination. My professor says to get a reserve book from the Library. How do I get it from reserve?

Reserves are held behind the front desk at the Library. Students must ask Library Staff for the title that the professor has requested students refer to for their class. The loan periods are short and vary of 4 hours, 1-day, 2-day, 3-day, 7-day.

How do I renew a checked out book?

You may renew regular books and DVDs once. An item cannot be renewed if there is someone waiting for it, if it is on reserve, if it is overdue, or for any piece of equipment.

Items may be renewed in person, over the phone or online. If you’d like to renew an overdue item, you must come into the Library and pay the late fee at the time of renewal.

How do I access online library resources off-campus?

To access online resources remotely, staff and students will be prompted to login using Microsoft's single sign-on with their Niagara College Brightspace credentials. All online resources are available 24/7.

How do I check the due dates of my books?

Students and staff will receive an email confirmation of the item(s) with the due date(s) in their Niagara College email inbox. If that email is not accessible, you can login to your account to view items that are currently checked-out.

How do I find a book in the stacks?

You will need a call number (Example: TX820 .G543 2015) to locate the book on the shelf. That call number will be on a label found on the "spine" of the book that faces out in the stacks. The shelf is arranged in alphabetical and numerical order by Call Number. If you have trouble locating the book, please ask our staff to help.

How do I get help with citations?

Visit our online catalogue and use the search tool to find an eBook based on title, subject and author. Use the filter in your search results on the left hand side under "Resource Type" and select "Books".

Can I still use the library when I graduate?

We may have your information still on file if you are a recent graduate. If not, please visit your campus library to set up a library account or fill out the following form. There is no fee. Cards are valid for one year from date of issue and may be renewed if there are no outstanding fines. Please bring your card to borrow materials.

If a title is unavailable, we will place you on a waitlist. Wait times may vary depending on the due date of the item and popularity. 

Library staff will also see to locating another copy at an Ontario College. Availability and wait times will vary.

How much does 3D printing cost?

Students, faculty and staff will get the first 100 grams of their 3D print job for free (per semester). There will be a charge of $0.10/gram thereafter.
